Most doctors want universal health care

More than half of U.S. doctors now favor switching to a national health care plan and fewer than a third oppose the idea, according to a survey that came out today.

Filling in on 104.3 MYfm

I'll be filling in on 104.3 MYfm Friday night and Saturday morning. I'll be doing the usual syndicated Saturday Night 80's show as well. See you on the radio!

Expelled

There's a propaganda film called "Expelled" currently making the rounds that attempts to dress up creationism in "intelligent design" garb in order to pass as some kind of science, and attempts to link any and everyone who doesn't buy creationism with Hitler, Stalin and the Holocaust.

And it's shamelessly hosted by Ben Stein, who is Jewish. Does he really believe this crap?

Here's a review of the film when they trotted this pablum out to a friendly audience in Orlando FL: Link

Coincidentally, the Longwood mega-church where they showed it is a church I used to attend in the early 90s. I wonder how many of my former friends are still there... and if they really think I had a hand in the murder of six million Jews, or supported Hitler and Stalin simply because I don't accept creationism.

A question I'd love to ask, if they'd stop screeching at me for being Satan in human form, is which religious creation fable should we teach in science class? After all, there are many, and if they're really interested in "intellectual openness," they've got to make room for other religions' origin myths too, not just the Judeo-Christian one.

Another question: If they're really interested in a "fair hearing for opposing 'scientific' views," will they allow biologists to teach evolution in their Sunday schools if we must allow religious pundits and preachers to teach creationsim in our science classes?

Somehow I think not, being that we're all mass murderers aiming to drink the blood of Christian babies or something.

She wasn't lying!

Her "misstatement" that she made nine or ten times, the one she attributes to "sleep deprivation" (even though she says she's more qualified to answer that pesky telephone at 3am, and hopefully wouldn't "misspeak" into it), turns out to maybe be true after all! I think this video -- obviously NOT tampered with in any way, certainly NOT faked -- proves that maybe Hillary was telling the truth.

Judge for yourself!

Hillary threatening Democratic majority in the House

Hillary is now endangering the Democratic Party’s majority in the House, all in the name of destroying a candidate who had the audacity of challenging Hillary’s "entitlement" to the nomination.

From AmericaBlog:

As you know, Hillary got her top donors to threaten to pull to pull their support of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). Basically, 20 top donors wrote Speaker Pelosi and told her that if she doesn’t publicly endorse Hillary’s effort to steal Obama’s elected delegates, they may pull their money from the DCCC. Make no mistake, Hillary was behind yesterday’s letter threatening House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Your top donors don’t make a public move like that against our more important elected official in the House without Hillary’s approval (and most likely, Hillary’s coordination).

The thing is, Hillary has now moved beyond endangering our race for the White House. She’s now risking our House Majority.

Hillary is hurting herself

Hillary's negative campaigning is biting her in the ass. Her approval numbers have plummeted.

As expected, one of the two major Democratic candidates saw a downturn in the latest NBC/WSJ poll, but it's not the candidate that you think. Hillary Clinton is sporting the lowest personal ratings of the campaign. Moreover, her 37 percent positive rating is the lowest the NBC/WSJ poll has recorded since March 2001, two months after she was elected to the U.S. Senate from New York.

Sleep deprivation

It would appear that the Wright controversy (and Hillary’s very transparent attempt to re-ignite it today) has not had any long term damaging effect on Obama.

http://www.411mania.com/politics/columns/71692

Also today, Clinton gave an excuse for her "misstatement" about her Bosnia trip -- she was "sleep deprived." Sleep deprived? For someone who wants us to think she's more qualified to answer the phone at 3am? Really? Sleep deprived?

If she was sleep deprived, she must have been sleep deprived since December.
Haven't we already had 8 years of mealy-mouth excuses and half-truths and embellishments and lies? Isn't it time for a change?

Gas at an all-time high

Gas prices are now at an (adjusted for inflation) all-time high.

But Dick Cheney and our oil-soaked corporate Overlords don't give a crap. We just better suck it up and watch what we say.

If Homer Simpson were real...

... he'd look like this:

Exxon gouging you for fun and profit

Here we go again.

As you watch the price at the gas pump go up and up, and if you commute any appreciable distance to work you start calculating if you can save money by taking all your sick and vacation days now just to save fuel... Exxon is planning to gouge you even more.

Exxon is skimping on oil production to increase their profit margin. Keep in mind that over the last few years all the oil companies have enjoyed historic profits. And when I say "historic," I mean the highest corporate profits in human history.

But they want more.

And as your budget gets squeezed and your food prices skyrocket, the oil companies and their rich government benefactors are laughing at you. Dick Cheney is snarling arrogantly at you while his chauffeur fills his tank for him. Bush is completely unaware even though he may claim, "Ah know how hard it is to put gas on yer family. Heh heh."

They are laughing at you. And they hate you. You are nothing more to them than meat whose job it is to make them richer and richer.

Fox News hosts defend Obama. What?

This surely must be one of the seven signs of the Apocalypse. Fox News' Chris Wallace spoke up for Barack Obama and took Fox News to task for distorting an Obama quote.

Wait, there's more. Apparently, Fox News host Brian Kilmeade walked off the set because he was "fed up" with his co-hosts for taking the Obama quote out of context.

Olbermann takes aim at Hillary

"I have fought with myself over whether or not to say anything," Olbermann begins tentatively, before saying, "Events insist."

See the video here.

Olbermann targets Hillary

Keith Olbermann will do his first ever "special comment" exclusively targeting a Democrat as he goes after Hillary Clinton tonight on Countdown, on MSNBC at 8pm ET/5pm PT.

Nearing $110

Oil prices struck a record high of 109.72 dollars per barrel on Tuesday after the dollar hit a fresh all-time low against the euro and amid persistent energy supply concerns.

The good news about all this? We'll have something to bash our kids and grandkids over the head with. "Back in my day, we had it HARD!" and we won't even have to exaggerate.

Thank you, George! Thanks for "jawboning" your Saudi friends like you said you would back in 2000. I'm sure Dick is happy. The oil companies are drowning in profits while we groan.

Good questions

Obama's got a good question for the Hillary campaign: If he's so inexperienced and unready to be president, why does the Hillary campaign keep talking about him as VP on her ticket?

This also leads to a further question: if Obama wins the nomination, will Hillary be campaigning for McCain since she's said repeatedly that McCain is qualified to be president and Obama is not?

"3am girl" is Obama supporter

In Hillary's now infamous campaign ad, a little girl is shown sleeping while a phone rings at 3am.

Turns out that the footage is actually about a decade old. The little girl in the video is now 17.

Oh, and she's an Obama supporter.

Be very very very afraid of terrorists

Prescription tap water

Oh, goody.

A vast array of pharmaceuticals - including antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones - have been found in the drinking water supplies of at least 41 million Americans.

They're tracking you right now

A U.S. government office in Quantico, Virginia, has direct, high-speed access to a major wireless carrier's systems, exposing customers' voice calls, data packets and physical movements to uncontrolled surveillance, according to a computer security consultant who says he worked for the carrier in late 2003.

Obama is imitating Ken Starr?

Today the Clinton campaign responded to Obama's call for Hillary to release her tax returns. Howard Wolfson, one of Hillary's top aides, said, "I for one do not believe that imitating Ken Starr is a way to win a Democratic primary for the presidency."

So because Obama is calling on Hillary to release her tax returns, he is "imitating Ken Starr."

Hmm.

Back in 2000, when Hillary was running against Rick Lazio for the Senate, she called on him to release his tax returns and said that it was "disturbing" that Lazio was waffling on it.

Was Hillary "imitating Ken Starr" then?

Cat of 1000 faces

Why is Hillary campaigning for McCain?

Four times now, Hillary has gone on TV and basically endorsed McCain over Obama.

I imagine she must be thinking, since she can't win the nomination, she'll bloody Obama so much that he'll lose against McCain, and then she'll run in 2012...?

But what Democrat is going to forgive her if Obama loses to McCain because Hillary essentially campaigned for the Republicans?

Does Hillary want to be McCain's VP?

"I think that I have a lifetime of experience that I will bring to the White House. I know Senator McCain has a lifetime of experience to the White House. And Senator Obama has a speech he gave in 2002." Link.

Air America's Rachel Maddow said on Keith Olbermann's show, "This is what you say if you want to be McCain's choice for Vice President. It is not what you say if you are running for the Democratic nomination."
